Watch: how to use your CocoDrill

Open a coconut in 3 steps

  1. Push into the coconut. Remove the safety cap, set a young coconut on a steady surface, and press the CocoDrill blade into the top.
  2. Twist into the coconut. Keep steady downward pressure while twisting the tool back and forth until the hole is made, then pull it out.
  3. Drink! Insert a straw and enjoy raw coconut water straight from nature's package.
Clear any bits left in the blade with the included cleaning stick, then put the safety cap back on.

Good coconut, bad coconut

Pick a winner

  • Feels heavy for its size
  • You can hear water slosh when you shake it
  • No cracks, mold, or wet spots on the base
  • Husk looks white or tan, not gray
  • The CocoDrill is made for young (white husked) coconuts

Totally normal

  • Water turns slightly pink after sitting out (air does that)
  • Meat is thin and jelly-like in some coconuts, thick in others
  • Sweetness varies from coconut to coconut

Toss it if

  • It smells sour, fermented, or "off"
  • The water is fizzy or cloudy gray
  • The meat is slimy, gray, or has spots

Storage and care

  • Water: fridge 1 to 2 days, or freeze in ice cube trays
  • Meat: airtight container in the fridge 2 to 3 days, or freeze
  • Tool: dishwasher safe stainless steel blade; clear debris with the cleaning stick
  • Always replace the safety cap, never press on the blade end, and keep away from children
